Apple Tasting

Outside Time on this beautiful Fall morning

We celebrated Luke's birthday today with some yummy cookies

During our large group time we cut 4 apples with my apple peeler/slicer. We had Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Jonagold.
During our small group time students made a prediction of which apple they thought they would like most. Then we had a blind taste test and students recorded which apple they liked. Many did not pick the same apple as their prediction.

In another small group students worked with Mrs. Helmkamp to make patterns. I was able to challenge students to try different kinds of patterns.

In another center we got to be giants and sort mini apples (colored garbanzo beans) with tweezers. Using the tweezers helped us practice using our fingers in a different way while also working on sorting.
In our last group we used pictures of food to sort in different ways. Students had to work with a partner to decided how they were going to sort. (Healthy/Unhealthy, Like/don't like, fruits and veggies/other)

After our small group time we used a chart to graph the results of our taste testing. Red delicious was the winner today.

We also got time to play in the gym today.
