Restaurant Business has Started

We are well under way in our restaurant and figuring out how to make it work. On our list last week we said that we needed menus, so we got busy this week making menus.

To make our own menus we:
1. spelled "MENU" with letters
2. cut out pictures
3. wrote some of the foods

We also started cutting out some different kids of foods for our restaurant. We made: bread, pickles, tomatos, lettuce, mushroom, bacon, hamburger, and bologna

Please remember:
Grandparents Day forms were due Friday, Feb 25. If you haven't turned yours in yet please do so as soon as possible so that we can adequately prepare for the day. If you need another form click here to download one or you will find one in your child's back pack.

New Things

It seems like we haven't been outside since before Christmas. We were so excited this week to get to spend some time outside. By Thursday all the snow and most of the water was gone from our playgrounds so we were able to have recess after lunch!

This we we did some new things in our classroom:
We got to paint with spaghetti. It was a little messy, but a lot of fun!
We also opened our restaurant for the first time.
We were really excited about the new tables for our customers, notepads to take orders, and checks to let people know how much they owe.

However, we also discovered that there are some more things we need for our restaurant to be good.
Here is the list they come up with on Thursday and Friday:
more aprons
more cooking stuff/food
-spatula
-pies
-chicken
-pizza
-macaroni
-spaghetti-o's
-tacos
-soup
-cake
-bread
-spaghetti
more pencils
menus
napkins
placemats
We will work on creating some of these items ourselves, but I could also use your help. When you go to a restaurant ask them if they would be willing to give you a few extra paper placemats, containers for food (I already got McDonalds), or if you come across any menus (maybe takeout menus).
We are also interested in some food magazines so that we can make our own menus. If you have any magazines that have good food pictures please send a few in.
Yearbook Orders: Were due today. If you are still interested in ordering a school yearbook, we need to know as soon as possible.

Grandparents Day: Don't forget to send in form about Grandparent's Day on March 10.

The Results are In!

I am excited to announce that the results are in and our next project will be restaurants!
Many of the students had a lot of fun this week looking through the ballots and graphing the results. They would get excited when they found a vote that was the same as theirs.

Here you can see the final results:
We also had a great time at our Valentine's Day parties. Thank you again to the moms who dedicated so much time to making our parties this year so great! Especially Andrea Weist, Andrea Van Bree, and Michelle Linneman.
We have also been trying to find new things to do in our classroom since we haven't been able to go outside, so this week we made flubber on Wednesday after nap. We have enjoyed playing with it, cutting into pieces, and watching how it stretches
Notes going Home this Week!
There was a lot of stuff that went home this week in your child's folder. Please look for the following:
1. Lutheran Schools Week Information
2.Grandparents Day Information
3. Spring Pictures Flier
4. Yearbook Sales Flier

Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday of next week. Every child who is at school will get their picture taken and the proofs will be sent home. It is your choice whether or not you order. If your child does not attend school on Tuesday, you are welcome to bring your child in to get their picture taken, anytime from 8:30-11 AM. Pictures will be taken in the Church basement.
Zion Open House is this Sunday from 1-3 PM. Please feel free to come in and learn more about Zion or invite your neighbors, friends, or family. Zion is a great place to be and the Open House is a great opportunity to introduce new families to our school.
Book Orders You have until Monday to place book orders for February. Remember that book orders are placed online at www.scholastic.com/parentordering Our class activation code is GPGJT.
Mrs. Helmkamp will be out of the classroom on Tuesday and Wednesday at METC (Midwest Education Technology Conference). Mrs. Thaemert will be subbing for me. She has subbed in our classroom before. I will still be checking my email if you have any questions or concerns.
Auction Round-Up Please don't forget to donate in items for our annual school auction. When students bring in items for the auction, they will be able to vote for the teacher that they would like to see dress up like Scooby-Doo. The auction supports the school by giving the PTL money to spend on things for the school. In the past the auction has supported air conditioning in the gym and SMARTboards in the classrooms.

Snow Week

Well it was interesting week of school this week. I hope that everyone enjoyed their snow days. I am very thankful that we were still able to have our Election.
To prepare for the election first we made signs telling each other to "Vote" and "Election Today." Then we decorated our voting booths and we were ready to go.
Each student had to sign the Voter Registration sheets, where they had to find their name and then write it in the box.

Then they could take their ballot to the booth and make their choice between:
1. Restaurants
2. Space
3. Music
4. Bodies

Next they placed their ballot in the box.

Next week we will graph the results!

Valentines Party update. We will have our parties on 3 days again just like Harvest Party and Christmas Party. We will have parties on Tuesday(Feb 8), Wednesday(Feb 9), and Thursday(Feb 10). The parties will start at 9:30 and end at 10:30. Students can bring Valentines to pass out to their friends. We now have a total of 30 students in full day preschool. Please remember when making Valentines Cards that you should only fill out the "From:" that way it doesn't matter which bag we place the cards into. Students will make Valentines bags at school to receive their Valentines.

Auction Round Up is starting. Please check your child's folder to find out what this is all about. The School Auction is a very important fundraiser for our school and a wonderful evening for all who attend.

Grandparent's Day is on Thursday, March 10th of Lutheran Schools Week. More information will go home next week about Grandparent's Day. Please mark it on your calendar!
Scholastic Book Orders New fliers were sent home this week for Scholastic. If you would like to order this month orders are due February 14th. Classroom code is GPGJT www.scholastic.com/parentordering
