Valentines Party

Thank you for many special adjustments this morning. Everything went well.
We worked on patterning with conversation hearts. Some kids worked on AB patterns and some tried AABB patterns while others did ABC and AAB patterns

Back in the classroom we acted our the story of the Good Samaritan using finger puppets. Hard to tell the story from the pictures, but ask your child I think many of them can recap the story.

We also measured and weighed ourselves so that we can compare how big we are to the polar animals.

Thank you to our room moms for planning a great party.
We used watercolors to find secrete messages on hearts. We made Valentine crowns and Cloud dough.  We also practice our numbers with M&Ms.

Valentine's Party

Today we acted out the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
Nathan was the Jew who was traveling along the road, when 2 robbers came and beat him up and stole his money.

A Priest and a Levite both passed by the Jew and went on their way.

Then the Good Samaritan came and helped him and gave the inn keeper money to take care of him.

We took measurements to see how tall we are and how much we weigh so that we can compare our size to the polar animals.

We started to measure out the sizes of the polar animals. We found out that the Emperor penguin is about our size.

Time for the Valentine's party!
We made necklaces

We had a yummy chex mix snack

Then we made magnets with stickers.

We also played a game where we tossed heart bean bags

We also made fun sand art.

Igloo and Icy water

Making patterns with conversation hearts.

We are really enjoying the polar animals in the white sand.

We had a Tuesday chapel this week to make more time for our party on Thursday. Mrs. Kuhlmann led chapel by sharing how much Jesus loves us.

Mrs. Helmkamp finished the igloo this morning so we were all very eager to get inside, but we had to come up with some rules first so that we don't destroy it. The kids helped write the rules and added them to the side of the igloo for all to see. (This is a great way for them to learn the importance of print and writing)

Nathan practiced matching with some pretend mittens.

We also started researching about the Polar animals. We used National Geographic to find our where the animals live and how big they are. Later this week we will compare our size and weight to the animals.

At the very end of the day we also did a little experiment with icy cold water. (Sorry no picture) We all put our hands in the water to see how long we could keep them in before they got too cold. (It wasn't very long). Then we used a blubber bag (Ziploc bags filled with Crisco) to keep our hands warm. With the blubber we could keep our hands in the water for a very long time. We talked about how polar animals use blubber to keep them warm.

Blubber and Hearts

We started the morning by sorting candy hearts

Some of us also had to make our Valentines bags because of the Snow Day last Wednesday.

The girls got out the wood pieces to practice making letters

Last week we talked about how we stay warm, so we did a bit of an experiment today to find out how Polar animals stay warm.
First we put our hand in ice water to see how long it took for our hand to get cold. Most students lasted about 6 seconds before they pulled their hand out.
Next we used a special pouch to see if our hands stayed warmer. Everyone could have left their hands in for a very long time.

Some of us also painted with daubers to make a heart picture

We worked on counting and determining how many.

Sorting and then counting

After everyone had put their hands in the ice water. We talked about how blubber keeps polar animals warm..

Just like the blubber keeps polar animals warm, the Crisco kept our hands warm in the ice water.
